The Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team faced a heartbreaking defeat against Georgia Tech in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, concluding their season with a 15-12 overall record. The match, held at the Wisconsin Field House in Madison, Wisconsin, was a five-set thriller that showcased the resilience and skill of both teams.
Georgia Tech secured the victory with set scores of 18-25, 25-13, 30-32, 28-26, and 15-12. The Lady Vols were led by Nina Cajic, who delivered an outstanding performance with 27 kills, six blocks, and 11 digs. Paityn Chapman contributed 13 kills, while setter Caroline Kerr recorded a career-high 57 assists along with 13 digs, demonstrating her pivotal role in orchestrating the offense. Defensively, Klaudia Pawlik stood out with a match-high eight blocks. Despite Tennessee’s dominance at the net, recording 14 team blocks compared to Georgia Tech’s nine, the Yellow Jackets’ offensive power, particularly from Tamara Otene and Bianca Bertolino, proved decisive in the final set.
This match marked the end of the season for the Lady Vols, who had reached the Bianca Bertolino Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The team’s performance throughout the season and in this match highlighted their growth and determination, setting a strong foundation for future success
